Truth of Tesla In India

There are lots of car manufactures. But Tesla is the one making futuristic cars. In future we will have self driving cars. Open maps put your destination and done. Tesla which is currently fastest growing country is planning to setup a assembly line in India . If tesla come to India will it be successful in Indian demand ? So We are dividing this topic in Some parts.

Indian traffic and Indian roads

India has a network of over 5,897671 kilometres of roads as of 31 March 2017. This is the second largest road network in the world after the United States with 6,645,709 kilometers. Roads are the important transport mode of India.

So, In India Everywhere you can see people. In India 2.2% of total population have their own cars. Yes, the number looks like too small but remember India is second populated country after China. Not only one car a lot of people have more than one car. So all-time Indian roads are filled with cars. So, accidents are very common for Indian. In 2019 India reported a total of 449,002 road accidents of which 151,113 were fatal and 451,361 had injuries.

Roads in India

It is very dangerous to drive a car in Indian Roads .There are lot of reasons for these accidents like Speeding Control is the biggest reason for fatal crashes . In 2019 total 1.02 lakh fatalities reported . In India peoples are not aware to their life's . They does not wear Helmets . 16% of fatalities were on account of not wearing helmets. Not only helmets people doesn't even  wear seat belts .
But all the reasons of accidents are not only for drivers . Indian roads are too much congested and there is not footpath system . So walking people came down to roads . For all of these reasons Indian traffic have to face a lot of road Blockage . Even drivers are not able to control their cars in these types of roads . So they have to concentrate a lot while driving .

Traffic Jam in congested Road

Coming back to Tesla Electric cars the most highlighted feature is Auto driving . Yea it is very smart way drive your car . But in Countries like  India it is just impossible to drive a Tesla Car in Auto Drive mode . Auto Driver mode is possible in low traffic road or high ways . But the sad thing is in India all most every roads are crowed . You have to drive your car by your own experience.

Yes, although Tesla has AI (Artificial Intelligence) base driving system but surely it will not work in Indian roads . If we neglect the auto drive mode tesla is just like normal car but the big difference in Tesla is powered by Electric . Yes of course is is good for nature and it doesn't make pollution. So, Tesla have to set up a lot of charging stations among the country .

 Lets understand with a example.
Suppose you bought a car and you drive it for a long drive but suddenly you realize its battery going down . So you have to find a nearest charging station to charge your car. But in maps it shows the charging station is 30 kilometers away from you. Now what should you do ? This is a very scary moment for you . The only way is you have to toe your car by another car.
So that's why Tesla have to establish a lot of charging stations in Indian Roads .And it takes a lot of time . But Tesla promised to launch his Tesla model 3 in India in 2021.It looks very difficult.

Price, demand and popularity in India

Though Tesla is a electric car but it goes 0 to 100 in just 3 seconds. Tesla Model X can pull a Boeing 787. Because this car is electric, there is no petrol/diesel. That means it is environment friendly and pocket friendly . Tesla Model 3 will be launch in India and company claims that it will be cheapest variant. In US tesla price starts from 38,000 dollar. That means in Indian currency it will be 28 lakh. Estimates says that when this car finally come to India the variant starts from 60 lakh which is outside of a lot of peoples budgets. Now you are thinking why this price difference and why the car is soo expensive. So, let me clear. Tesla is a CBU car that means Completely Built Up which will be directly imported from the country of manufacturing and directly sold to Indian customers without any assembly.  So, this vehicles attract 100% import duty. But this problem can be solved. If the manufacturing unit will come to India and assemble its cars the price will be automatically reduced. But the main problem is this electric cars are made in China. Because electric cars are completely dependent on batteries and the raw material of this batteries are Lithium. China has a huge stock of lithium. India does not have so much lithium. So, even in future India will have to import lithium from another country. But if we can encourage EV sales and  infrastructure in India and bring global manufactures in India to make EV then we will be profitable in long run.

Electric cars are not 100% green . The barrerites used in this vehicles creates a lot of pollution. Also remember 80% of Indian electricity comes from coal  and it is major reason for air pollution. In 2010 electric vehicles are 2 times efficient than petrol and diesel cars  and in 2019 it becomes 3 times.

So, yes tesla is a innovative idea of modern technology. But the total future of Tesla in India is dependent on its next price.
